Buzz, Shag, Or Dreadlocks?

Well, I'm off to get a hair cut. I've been trying for over 3 weeks now and either her schedule or mine has kept it from happening. So now my hair is sticking up like Alfalfa. But I'll wait for my girl 'cause I trust her. She's got green hair at the moment. In the past I've also seen it purple or blue or all of the above. It just goes to show that you can't judge a hair stylist by her hair color. In fact, her chair is right in the shop window on the street. Sometimes this makes me feel like the leg-lamp in A Christmas Story. But several times I've seen people duck in off the street just to compliment her. What am I, chopped liver? Maybe I'll try the green this time.

I'm Seeing Red

Ever seen these folks before? This is the King family. I mentioned them in my message last Sunday and was surprised at how many people remembered them. When I was a kid, they would do Christmas specials. Usually in December. Then you wouldn't see them the rest of the year. I always pondered on what they did January through November. My Dad said they practice.
Anyway, if you ever get the chance, be sure to catch one of their Christmas specials. They're one of the best rap groups I've ever heard.

The More Important Thing

Oswald Chambers said, "It is actually more important to be broken bread and poured-out wine in the area of intercession than in our personal contact with others." Sometimes we think that unless we have just the right words of counsel we are of no use to someone. How much better it is to lift a prayer to God. Do we really believe that He hears us? If we do, we should be praying so much more of the time. I encourage you to pray for someone who is going through a tough time right now...right now!
Of course, you're always welcome to join us for Tuesday Night Worship and Prayer from 7 to 8.

This Sunday

This Sunday morning, my message is titled, "Yo, Homeboy, It's God's Crib". The sub-title is "The Church: God's Address". I love the church and after studying for this message -I love it all the more...which I didn't think was possible. God's dwelling place is where I want to be. That's a place of love, righteousness, joy and excitement. We'd love to have you join us!

What's Happening

What a weekend! I've had internet problems so I haven't been able to blog until now. We had a Mother/Daughter banquet Friday night, the School of Ministry Saturday, and, of course, Mother's Day on Sunday! Here's a quick synopsis of each event...
The Mother/Daughter banquet filled the sanctuary with a lot of hungry ladies doing the hula. (Or learning how it's done.)
The School of Ministry brought folks here who are called to Ministry. For one of the sessions, I spoke on Music Ministry and was a bit surprised at all that's involved...even though I've been doing it for the past 17 years. It is only by the grace of God we can get it all done.
For Mother's Day, Sheri spoke and started out with the most hilarious DVD. It was kind of like Robert Barone doing a tribute to his mother. Sheri spoke on one of the greatest moms of all time (judging by how the Child turned out): Mary. So much to learn from Mary! Typically I'm not one who thrills to Mother's Day messages but this one was terrific.
I was a bit relieved that we'd cancelled the evening service for Mother's Day awhile back. I was a walking zombie by Sunday night.
God is doing some wonderful things around here -for which we are very grateful. Tonight we'll have our third Tuesday Night Worship & Prayer Meeting from 7 to 8. We've had refreshing times in His presence -and people have been healed at our first two meetings. You are welcome to join us!

With Interest

I just have to say how touched I am that you have come to my blog! Someone recently referenced something I'd written on my blog and it really put a lump in my throat. No, I wasn't nauseous or choking...I felt loved.
Don't mean to get sappy on you this week. I'm feeling very grateful for the family of God these days.
Philippians 2:4 "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."
That verse describes you. And that makes you pretty interesting.

There's No Place Like Home

What a great weekend we had! (Because I have Mondays off, Tuesday is actually my Monday.) Bunco was cool and congratulations to James Aragon for winning the whole sha-bang. We applauded him accordingly. I was especially excited to see the earliest photos of James and Fawnia's little guy, Noah. The ultra sound pictures are amazing.
It was so nice just to hang out and talk after the game on Friday. We've got such a fun, sweet-spirited, loving group of people. I'm very thankful to have them in my life.
I'm also glad to have Jennifer in the office after a trip to Kansas! They actually had a tornado siren go off during their Sunday morning service. They were making plans for evacuation -and then the skies cleared up. Then they took an offering. :)

Join Us For Bunco & Dessert

It's Bunco and Dessert Night! It starts at 7:30. Bunco is a game that sounds really difficult -but once you start, you realize how simple it is. I suppose the score-keeper has to do the most work...thus, Sheri's furrowed brow last time. I'm glad I didn't have to do it. I was able to concentrate all my energies on rolling the dice. The big winner last time was Jessy Pallil -and she did it all with a baby in her arms! What did she win? Our respect and admiration...and possibly a book deal. "The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Bunco Players" or "Purpose Driven Bunco" or "Who Moved My Bunco?"

The Capacity To Choose

Last night Sheri started a series on "The DNA Of Relationships" by Dr. Gary Smalley. It would seem that the way you really know you're growing in obedience to the Word is often proven through your relationships. It's awesome to study the text book. Now comes the practical application. Too many people don't like that part.

At one point she said, "You can't always choose your relationships -but you can choose how you will act in those relationships. We live in a society of victims. People often feel that they are in troubled relationships and they "have no choice."

Personally I was offended by that victim remark and am considering a lawsuit.

The Stars At Night...

My trip to Texas was great. I'll tell more about it when I get my pics. (I hate blogging without toothpicks.) I will tell you this much...last Wednesday, the weather was looking a little scary. It was sad to hear about those who were actually killed in another part of the state. In Houston, we saw rain, thunder & lightning -and even a tornado was possible for that night. But mid-day, there was nothing but blue skies. Maybe God cleared them up so more people could go to the prayer meeting...which was awesome.
By the way, we had our first Tuesday Night Worship & Prayer Meeting last night. Much thanks to those who attended! We welcome anyone who'd like to join us!
Isaiah 56: 7 "...for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."
